Sleep is one of the important foundations of a healthy and balanced life, alongside good nutrition and regular exercise. Quality sleep gives our mind and body the opportunity to rest, repair and recharge.
Our natural sleep-wake cycle, or circadian rhythm, is influenced by light and our body's natural hormones and neurotransmitters. Melatonin helps prepare our body for sleep, while serotonin plays an important role in mood and is involved in the production of melatonin. When this natural rhythm becomes disrupted, our sleep can be affected, leaving us feeling tired, restless or unable to switch off. Stress, busy thoughts and learned patterns around bedtime can all contribute to difficulties with sleep.
Struggling with insomnia?
Insomnia can make it difficult to fall asleep, cause you to wake frequently during the night, or leave you waking too early and unable to return to sleep. Sometimes, worrying about sleep can become part of the cycle — “I won't sleep tonight” or “How will I cope tomorrow?” — leaving your mind alert when your body needs to rest.
How can hypnotherapy help?
Hypnotherapy can help you develop a calmer relationship with sleep by addressing some of the thoughts, feelings and habits that may be keeping you awake.
Through relaxation, positive suggestion and tailored hypnotherapy techniques, we can work towards reducing mental chatter and anxiety around bedtime, encouraging your mind and body to relax and allowing your natural sleep processes to take over.
Imagine going to bed feeling calm and relaxed, without worrying about whether you'll sleep. Then waking after a restful night, feeling as though your mind and body have had the chance to truly recharge, feeling refreshed, energised and ready to enjoy the day ahead.
Often, one or two personalised sessions can provide a gentle starting point to help you relax, quieten a busy mind and create more positive associations with sleep and bedtime. Many of my clients have discovered their sleep has naturally improved whilst addressing other issues like stress & anxiety.
